The inclusion of Consortium Standards committee members (representing ANSI and USEPA) in ISO Technical Committee 85 / Working Group 17 (tasked with developing standards pertaining to nuclear energy, nuclear technology, radiological protection and radioactivity measurement), and the opportunity provided to impart a North American perspective to international radon standards will be presented. Among the many radiological topics of focus for WG 17 is the revision and development of a 10-part series of standards pertaining to radon. These include: an informative on radon; protocols for various measurement methods; protocols on related diagnostic methods; measurement of ground surface and building materials exhalation (emanation) rate; and radon measurements in buildings. The authors will provide an overview and summary of the various standards, and a more detailed discussion of the first standard they collaborated on for submitting revisions being considered for , “ISO 11665-8: Methodologies for Initial and Additional Investigations in Buildings.”
